The Virginia Beach Convention Center project is a National Architecture and Engineering Award Winner in the category of Projects Greater than $75 million. The 516,000 sq.-ft. building's design is based on nautical themes and seagoing vessels, along with a strong structural support for such endeavors. Images such as sails, yacht fittings, lighthouses, waves and water all find their way into the architectural design vocabulary.
The facility includes 150,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space, 29,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, and a 31,000 sq. ft. ballroom. The building features a glass tower that includes executive meeting rooms. The convention center also includes an expansive exterior glass curtain wall, predominately along the pre-function space. The exhibition space consists of a long-span, clear-span, and structural steel roof structure.
