Fully
automated, state of the art sheet metal shop capable of
manufacturing high volumes of duct work.
Bay Mechanical's sheet metal department is the heart and
soul of the company. "It's a critical area that touches
each division. No job is too complex or too critical for
Bay Mechanical to handle. If someone can imagine it, we
can build it.
From simple gauges to exotic industrial components, Bay
Mechanical's employees use their creativity and years of
experience to help turn their customer's vision into reality.
One of Bay Mechanical's main projects for the past three
years has been the EPA's (Environmental Protection Agency)
science and research center in Research Triangle Park in
Raleigh, N.C.
The new science facility will allow the EPA to study environmental
health hazards. The fabricated stainless-steel ductwork
into fume hoods permits the EPA to test chemicals and trap
harmful particles through a series of sophisticated filters
before they are discharged into the atmosphere. The EPA
works with highly contagious elements.
All the work was done in the 16,000-square-foot sheet-metal
shop on the Bay Mechanical complex in Virginia Beach then
shipped to North Carolina.
Bay Mechanical fabricate the ductwork for all major projects
on a 5-foot-wide coil line. Each roll of metal is 60 inches
wide and weighs 10,000 pounds. A computer does the technical
fittings then sends the information to one of two Vulcan
cutting systems. We lay flat sheets of metal on the table
from the duct, label and ship it to our job sites. We can
do any size job and ship it anywhere.
